AMA School of Medicine Infrastructure

AMA School of Medicine has various facilities. AMASOM has three campuses in the Philippines, the main campus is located in Makati. ASM Baguio was opened in the north of Luzon, and Cavite ASM will soon be created in the south of Luzon. Soon the Mindanao campus will also be located in the city of Davao. These are used for improved student’s clinical and practical skills, including laboratories for Microbiology, Gross Anatomy, Histology, Pathology, and Parasitology. These facilities, as well as classrooms for Medicine students, are inside AMASOM Building. This Medical Institution’s goal is to produce competent medical practitioners who are educated on an innovative based curriculum and practices that will be developing them to become self-directed and lifelong learners qualities that will prepare students for professional and technical practice. The hybrid developed curriculum designed to the basic science concepts and to utilize case-based scenarios to integrate concepts related to the basic science disciplines. The clinical disciplines are combined vertically using a problem based learning strategy to the creative concepts in the clinical disciplines. The AMA Medical Syllabus incorporates Information Technology-based capabilities to enhance learning and teaching assessments that are offered by AMAES. Development of student performance is based on the curriculum design with a small group of learning is a principal activity. Assessment includes examinations, practical sessions, clinical observations, and tutorials or attitude and discussion participation development.

Syllabus

The AMASOM First Year of the Syllabus is designed as blocks based on organ systems with related or similar functions. This educational plan aims to harmonize topics in Biochemistry, Anatomy, and Physiology. Association of selective concepts will be completed through case discussion in a problem-based tutorial or practical session in team learning and case method activities. The next two years of the curriculum are a sequence of organ-based modules that integrate basic and clinical concepts. PBL or Problem based learning is a principal teaching and learning activity enlarged by related activities as lectures, laboratory exercises, and case method group sessions. The students in a PBL small group setting, the ratio of 1 tutor to at most 10 students encounter and discuss problems common to practice. The Fourth Year of AMA medical school is the final year that allows the students to practice or learn from clinical materials in affiliate hospitals and community-based settings.

Facilities

Hostel

AMA School of Medicine campus accommodation for students and international students is available on campus. Hostel rooms are attached to bathrooms and rooms are available in single, double or triple beds facilities. Here Air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned rooms are available as per the choice of the students. Students can also choose to stay outside on their own accommodations. AMASOM has an excellent system of hostel accommodation. There are separate rooms available for Boys and girls. The hostel is fully-furnished and air-conditioned. In this hostel rooms have basic facilities such as T.V., Telephone, Refrigerator, Washing Machine, Radiators, etc. The common hall is available on every floor and there is a kitchen for self-cooking. These hostels are well-protected under the security agencies of the University.

Affiliated Hospital

QUIRINO MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER (QMMC) is the affiliated training hospital of AMASOM, “Quirino Memorial Medical Center was formerly called Labor Hospital, acknowledgment of the contribution of the working force, this was established to the intended primary beneficiary. The first building of this Hospital was to be constructed on November 11, 1952, the Department of Labor turned this hospital project over to the Department of Health (DOH) with the request to name this after President Elpidio R. Quirino. This Labor Hospital opened its service to the Filipino people with a 75-bed capacity and manpower of 26 in 1953. This became a Training and Teaching Hospital in 1959. After then, developments and renovations have characterized the continuing endeavors of the hospital in order to provide quality medical services. Creating in its determination to become one of the country’s best healthcare facilities, the QMGH has created its identity as a government hospital with a mission and vision. It became a tertiary general hospital in 1983 on June 10, In 1997 it became a 350 bedded capacity hospital with renamed the hospital as Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC). This hospital is increasing its occupancy rate and increased the bed capacity to 350 to 500 on December 12, 2012.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation awarded QMMC as a Center of Excellence in 2010, which is a distinction for hospitals that maintain healthcare quality standards, as outlined in the Benchbook on improving the performance of health services. The latest distinction was “The medical center recognized as the best practices in 2011, with particular emphasis on maternal health and infant nutrition for newborns as well as the necessary and newborn care (EINC) and Unang Yakap”, joint recognition of DOH and WHO. All this recognition was possible thanks to the Hospital Modernization Program at Kalusugan Pangkalahatan and Universal Health Care thanks to His Excellency, President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, and thanks to the inspiration of all DOH. ” QMMC has been a consistent winner of Red Orchid since 2010. Recognition for promoting a 100% tobacco-free environment by the World Health Organization (WHO).
In 2013, this is an important chapter in the history of QMMC, which has become one of the winners of the DOH Hall of Fame award.
