Last year, supreme court gave direction regarding eligibility of OCI candidates mentioning that OCI candidates, are eligible only for NRI quota seats, Few students filed case to consider them as general candidates at par with Indian citizens because they had studied from 1st to 12th standard in Indian Schools. Based on that, as one time rule, supreme court allowed only the petitioners to participate as general category students during 2021 counselling. Later on May, supreme court rejected interim relief for OCI candidates to participate as general candidates.
