In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, minority private medical colleges offering NRI quota seats generally follow a priority-based allotment system. These colleges first give preference to NRI candidates belonging to the respective minority community of their own state. Usually 15% seats are reserved for NRI quota in these states Medical colleges and minority colleges have all 15% seats under minority NRI candidates.

Eligible local minority NRI students are considered before opening the seats to others. After filling seats under state minority priority, the remaining NRI seats are made available to other eligible NRI candidates including other states.
In Kerala, private medical colleges reserve up to 15% of MBBS seats under the NRI quota as per state regulations but minority based private colleges have priority phase allotment on these NRI seats. These colleges generally give first priority to native Kerala NRI candidates those belonging to the respective minority community. Eligible Kerala-origin NRI applicants are considered before extending allotment to candidates from general NRI status including other states.
