History of Nepal

  • The King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha invaded the Kathmandu Valley and unified Nepal in the year 1786. Before the fusion of Nepal, it was ruled by various Kirats, Lichchavis, Thakuris and Mallas. The history mentioned the Kirats have ruled Nepal during BC 7th century. Though much was not known about the Kirats, the Lichchavi dynasty followed the Kirats which was lasted from the 2nd to 9th AD century.
  • Nepal was ruled by the Thakuris who were followed the Mallas for two centuries after The Lichchavis. Nepal was divided into many principalities and small kingdoms in the 5th century of Malla’s rule. Jang Bahadur Rana Prime Minister of Nepal revolted against the royalty in the year 1844. The famous Kot Massacre took place during this period, that kills so many noblemen at this incident.
  • Rana took absolute power but Shah family maintain the palace. After 104 years later the regime of Ranas came to an end due to their autocratic rules. In 1950 the King of Tribhuvan restored the democracy from the Rana regime with the Nepalese people support, and he restored the Shah Regime again in Nepal. Birendra ruled Nepal from 1972 – 2001, he was known as one of the noblest and peaceful kings of Nepal.
  • The entire family of the King Birendra was massacred in the year 2001 popularly Known as Royal Massacre, after that, the prince Dipendra was crowned as King. After that, death reason of king Diepndra, the Gyanendra Shah was succeeded as the King of Nepal. King Gyanendra Shah was dethroned in the year of 2006, for the reason of People’s revolution it is lead by the communist party of Nepal or Maoist. After that, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was established.

Nepal is situated in South Asia, between China in the north and India in the south. the total land area spread across 147,181 square kms. The Nepali foods are dal(lentil soup), boiled rice and tarkari (curried vegetables), with achar (pickle). Curried meat is very popular, but is saved for special occasions, as it is relatively more expensive. Rotis (flatbread) and dhedo (boiled flour) also make meals in some homes. Momos (steamed or fried dumplings) is one of the most popular snacks among Nepalis.
