- The Government of Tamil Nadu wishes the Transport Corporation employees to have a Medical College and Hospital to provide special medical treatment to the people of the area, the transport workers and their families.
- Accordingly, the Government has authorized the acquisition of 327.66 acres of Tuberculosis Sanatorium by the Road Transport Institute to start a Medical College in Perundurai, Erode District since 1992.
- It primarily aims to train medical students through a primary healthcare approach with a particular emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, early detection, diagnosis and disease management including the rehabilitation and social integration of transport workers, their families and rural residents.

- The college buildings are built on over 16,000 sq with separate blocks of hostel and residential buildings and hospital buildings, including the OPD block available on over 25,000 sq.
- This Medical College is built with all kinds of structures in accordance with the requirements of MCI. The College has three examination rooms available with an area of 15 980 sqm and available capacity for 500 students.
- There are four lecture halls in the college building, each with a capacity of 120 people.
- One lecture hall located in the hospital building with a capacity of 150 seats and all amenities.
- These are built-in gallery types with audio and video devices.
- Individual common rooms are available for male and female students with an area of 150 sqm in each with attached toilets.
- This Medical College Central Library is 1640 sq m.
