Maulana Azad Medical College(MAMC) is the largest medical college in the capital city of Delhi which is established in 1958. As per recommendations of the second five-year plan, the college started in the name of Delhi Medical College which is close to Irwin Hospital as Composite Medical College in 1957 with 50 male and 50 female students. In 1958, the college was housed in a new three-storey block designated as Anatomical Block, this place later became Burns & Plastic Surgery ward and at second floor a small lecture theatre, library and laboratory were functioning.
The MAMC constituents of with four premier hospitals co-exist on one campus which provides an extraordinary environment for medical education and training. The MAMC with its eminent faculty, high standards of education, research and patient care all serve to attract the most deserving students to this institution.

MAMC Delhi offers in medical stream at the undergraduate (UG) level and admits 250 students for the MBBS course annually. The Admissions are based upon highly competitive premedical entrance examination of NEET which is conducted by NTA. This College is affiliated with Delhi University and admission in the Under-graduate & Post Graduate is done by the Delhi University.
The college is named after great patriot and first education minister of independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and today stands as an epitome of medical excellence. Since it has various specialities medical stream courses and dedicated highly qualified teaching faculty this medical college is contributing to state of the art medical research and ongoing research grants.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Maulana Azad Medical College campus spread over in 122 acres with very green and pollution free in contrast to the neighbouring areas and these colleges attached with 4 other Medical institutes such as Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Institute of PG Medical Education & Research, Guru Nanak Eye Center and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. The Medical College caters with the medical course of UG, PG and Post Doctoral students per year being trained by 426 faculty members and 810 resident doctors.
Along with the best faculty and practice, MAMC has state of art lecture rooms, computer labs, Auditorium, Canteen, Library, Sports and Department labs. The Lecture Theaters has a capacity of the seat around 200 with Gallery type arrangements, centrally air-conditioned and well modern equipment system like fitted microphones and speakers. The auditorium has Seating arrangements of 800 patrons with consists of the main foyer and balcony and it has fully air-conditioned, plush seats, theatre lighting, projectors, microphones and PA system and used for various college functions.
MAMC’s library has Central Library an estimate of 32,900 books with combined all medical stream fields. The library also has 33,600 back volumes, a collection of 3000 theses, 170 current journals of international authors, 200 slides containing many medical science topics and PHD professors research works, and 650 CDs of different books as well as journals.
Also, the library facilities include a reading room on the first floor which is ideal for studying and is also air-conditioned and a good place to relax after a hectic day of studies. There is a computer lab is also located inside the library.
MAMC and its hospitals provide Hostel facilities for UG, PG, Interns and Staff accommodation within a campus. UG students have Separate hostel facilities for both boys of 359 rooms and Girls of 251 rooms with consists of Old Students hostel and New Students Hostel. PG Students for Boys has 203 rooms and for girls 132 room with accommodate one person per room and for Interns students Boys has 126 and Girls 67 rooms are available.
The Rooms are allotted as per priority basis and decided according to Hostel rules. All rooms are furnished with a wooden bed, study table, chair and almirah. Mess facilities are available in the New & Old Boys Hostel and Old Girls Hostel. Canteen facilities are available in Old Boys & Girl Hostel, and Boys Intern Hostel.
The MAMC has different canteens and cafeterias for both staff and students throughout the campus and some of the canteen open 24 hours which serves delicious South and North Indian food to everyone. Along with, there is a restaurant known as Indian Coffee House (ICT) which is a great hangout spot for students and faculty.
MAMC has various sports activities and facilities going on around the campus to keep the students active, fit and healthy which includes a Cricket ground, Football ground, Volleyball court, Basketball and Tennis courts, Table tennis, Badminton, multi-functional weight training gym, Swimming pool, and a Racing track as well.
Maulana Azad Medical College is affiliated to three premier hospitals and one Dental Institute which serve as centres of medical excellence to the patient. The Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Hospital is established in 1958, GB Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is established in 1964, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences is established in 1983 and Guru Nanak Eye Centre is established in 1977 all are located nearby the campus.
These hospitals make available bedded strength of 2800 and daily outpatient attendance of 7200 and have operation theatres of total 47for the patients as well as the medical students to learn. The hospitals provide super speciality level Medical and Surgical facilities in the fields of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal surgery, and Psychiatry. In addition, 24 hours casualty and emergency cover, general OPD services and speciality clinics are available.

The Maulana Azad Medical College is situated in New Delhi, the capital city of India. The city is the administrative centre of the country and is one of the most well developed and well connected nationally and internationally. The Campus is right in the heart of Delhi and it is well connected to all parts of the city by bus, The Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) is about 15 minutes drive from the college. MAMC is barely a ten-minute drive from the New Delhi Railway Station which is the major station for all trains coming from all over India. The Indira Gandhi International Airport and Palam Domestic Terminal are about 20 km from the college and the Transport to and from these are quite easy to obtain.
