The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine, and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital Chennai offers MBBS Course has a total of 250 seats annually which are divided as 15% NRI Quota and the remaining 85% for Management Quota.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category) to study Medical Course.
Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Sree Balaji College and Hospital complex was built on an area of 30.89 ha, ideally located in a healthy environment. It has the most modern infrastructure in terms of components, which include the most modern faculties, laboratories, classrooms for students, separate rooms for staff and nurses, and the most modern equipment. Highly qualified and experienced staff, well-equipped laboratories, a library, the latest teaching equipment and a large patient hospital that exposes students to various medical and surgical conditions are just some of the university’s most important attractions. The college buildings are built on over 1,10,500 sq with separate blocks of the hostel and residential buildings and hospital buildings, including the OPD block available on over 86,600 sq.
The College has three examination rooms available with an area of 1,900 sqm. and available capacity for 250 students in each. There are four lecture halls in the college building, each with a capacity of 300 seating capacity. One lecture hall located in the hospital building with a capacity of 300 seats and all amenities. These are built-in gallery types with audio and video devices. Individual common rooms are available for male and female students with an area of more than 200 sqm in each with attached toilets.
The Central Library of the Faculty of Medicine, with its well-lit, aesthetically designed, fire-proof centrally air-conditioned library, enters an atmosphere of serious intellectual work built-in area of 4986 sqm. Members of this Library has free access to a rich collection of over 23,625 books, 160 periodicals, and over 7200 previous editions at any time between 8pm. at 10pm on weekdays and 8pm to 8pm on holidays.
The library provides and facilitates students and teachers with free access to online journals. Several terminals are provided at the internet club. The audio and video room has a wide range of CDs and videotapes, providing effective learning tools. In addition to 270 seats in the main library reading lounge, another 250-seat lounge is available for users to read their own books. The photocopy feature is available in the library to assist users. Specially designed conference rooms, located in the library, are available for multimedia presentations, conference calls and international image transfers. A number of national and international conferences and CME programs are held in the auditorium.
Sree Balaji Medical College Hostel complex and residential complex was built on an area of over 68,000 sq m on the campus of the university. There are separate shelters for men and women, Boys hostel has more than 300 rooms and women’s hostel has 191 rooms, those are offering accommodation for up to 1000 students. These are comfortable single, double and triple rooms that offer accommodation. The spacious dining rooms serve nutritious vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Hostels are equipped with cable TV, telephone and Internet. A professional team of bodyguards ensures security.
PG & Staff Rooms
There is a PG hostel with 168 rooms and separate residential facilities for nurses and Interns with 140 rooms. On this campus there are also residential facilities for teachers and non-teachers. Students are monitored by shelter guards. complete student safety is monitored and ratified by the Gender Harassment Committee and the Ragging Prevention Committee. Separate, air-conditioned guest rooms and air-conditioned study rooms with computer and internet access are available.
This campus has 400mt of athletics classes for students. It has a good tournament cricket pitch. The soccer field has international standards, tennis courts, basketball court, badminton courts, exercise cricket net, hockey field are international standards. Indoor facilities such as the gym for boys and girls, table tennis, chess, etc. SBMC & H holds annual tournaments in all sports. This College has gym facilities. Sree Balaji Medical College Hospital was built over 86,500 sqm with 1120 beds. More than 3000 outpatients are visiting here and it’s providing good medical care to surrounding places. SBMCH has the largest intensive care unit. With 60 beds of intensive care and the latest in monitoring and ventilation equipment, the dedicated intensive care team offers life-saving care to many critically ill patients. The neonatal intensive care unit prides itself on rescuing severely premature children with complex congenital problems. Neuro and Special Heart ICUs provide advanced care for patients with heart disease and neurovascular conditions.
The Cardiac Care Center provides patients with outpatient care for rheumatic and coronary diseases, arrhythmias and cardiomyopathy. In addition to the heart of therapeutic diseases, the center offers excellent programs for the prevention of heart disease. With the help of a balloon and a cathi laboratory, the interventional cardiologist provides an easy and safe approach to the treatment of blood vessels and heart valves that would otherwise require surgery. The cardio-chest program has gained a special reputation due to its experience in the treatment of children with complex birth defects.
The Cardiological Care Center is one of the few centers in the country that perform heart transplants, ensure life support, help devices, and artificial hearts. It’s with a small incision and advanced laparoscopic techniques, the SBMCH surgeon can operate almost any organ without major interference with surrounding tissues. Due to small incisions, advanced technology and great care for sterile techniques, long hospitalizations and convalescence are now a thing of the past.
