Stanley College of Medicine and Hospital is one of the oldest and most prominent centers in India for medical education. Seeds for this institution were sown as early as 1740 when the East India Company first established the medical department. The infamous Stanley Hospital is now home to the old Monarch monastery established in 1780. The college is associated with the famous Stanley Government Hospital with 1280 beds for the treatment of patients.
Stanley’s five-star medical and hospital infrastructure has attracted middle-class people with afforadable cost.
In light of recent developments at our institution, Stanley’s medical college is one of the first medical colleges in Tamil Nadu to receive 250 MBBS seats, which was approved in 2013. The institution enjoys a legacy and will continue to bring its best knowledge to the community in the future.

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Stanley Government Medical College offers in the medical stream at the undergraduate (UG) level of MBBS course with admits 250 students annually. Total annual intake seats for UG is divided as 15% to AIQ and 85% to State Quota.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category) to study Medical Course.
Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.
Admission to Stanley Medical College is done through All India Medical Counselling as AIQ for 15 % of MBBS seats and remaining through Tamil Nadu State medical counselling as State Quota 85% seats, conducted by state medical authorities.

The Stanley Medical College campus itself is a pleasant one with well-maintained gardens and lots of trees. Stanley Medical College is known for its well-designed campus and providing high-quality education. The college gives world-class laboratories to the students in order to give them par knowledge, so the students can work with the better situation and learning skills are improving well.
The college building built-up area on 1,02,875 sq.mt with administrative block, 150 sq.mt of the separate common room for both boys and girls, seven lecture halls with 2100 seating capacity of gallery type halls with audio/video aids, demonstration halls, digital classrooms with E-classes, 250 sq.ft of three examination hall with 750 seating capacity, dissection hall and museum, Indoor & Outdoor playing courts.
Stanley medical college has 3998 sq.mt of an air-conditioned library which has high-quality 38,978 books. This Medical college Library also has current 70 Indian and 32 Foreign magazines on medical sciences to give the more related source to the Subject. and Stanley Medical College Library has provided 50 computers with internet source to develop students learning skills.
SMC has an Equipped Organized Museum. The Museum is displayed with dry and wet 465 number of specimens with fixed in Glass & Jars. And also it has 126 models & charts with catalogues, 10 articulated skeletons & 45 dis-articulated skeletons are adequately displays for the benefit of students observation with 50 number of seating capacity.
Stanley Medical College Has separate Hostel facilities for both male and female students.
This College has 602 rooms for boys & 516 rooms for girls. Hostel of the Male Students has separated dining and kitchen facilities for undergraduates, postgraduates and house surgeons respectively, and also the Stanley medical college recently inaugurated Three new hostels in 2012-2013. Which is behind the paediatrics block having accommodation for around 1500 students, with well-ventilated rooms.
Stanley Medical College has well maintained Sports Specialties and Gymnasium for students to improve their physical activities. This campus has a football, volleyball, basketball court. Cricket Ground, And play Ground nearby Hostel. SMC Hostel has provided good Mess facility to the students. Food was served in very good quality. This Medical College Mess has cared for students health, so they provide Hygienic food and Dining place for students. And also in a college campus, there is five canteen facility available in all time.
Stanley Government Medical College and Hospital is the oldest Hospital located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Which has been serving people more than 200 years, this is a Multispecialty treatment Hospital, especially in the cardiac and Hand Reconstruction and Rehabilitation services in addition to Plastic Surgery.
