The Thiruvarur Government Medical College was introduced to capture the growing demand for medical care among around rural public which started in 2010. The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Thiruvarur Government Medical College annually admits 100 students in the medical stream at the undergraduate (UG) level of the MBBS course. The total annual intake seats for UG are divided into AIQ by 15% and state quota at 85%.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category) to study Medical Course.
Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

This Institute has a very splendid and centrally air-conditioned building with well-equipped science labs, five lecture halls, spacious classrooms, demonstration rooms, exam hall cum with an auditorium of 520 seating capacity etc.
All the laboratories are well equipped as per INC norms. The Museum is displayed with dry and wet 100 number of specimens with fixed in Glass & Jars it has 30 models of charts with catalogues, five bonesets of skeletons are adequately displayed for the benefit of students observation.
Thiruvarur Medical College having Two Libraries with 1600 sq.mt, it has an air-conditioned Library. Each Library having 5928 and 1112 Books, Total of 7040 Books Available. This Library covers the area around 2400meter square with a seating capacity of 220.
