The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)
Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.
Admission is based on the NEET-UG pattern and is subject to change. 85% Admission to the State Quota is currently being made by the Selection Committe, Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Admission to 15% of All India Quota is done by DGHS under the Union Government Health & Family Welfare Department.

Villupuram Government Medical College Education Unit is located on the Third floor of the College building. The Air-conditioned Room with accommodate 250 seats and Audio-visual aids, computers with internet facilities and CD –Books are available. The Department has various sections like Histopathology, Morbid Anatomy, Cytopathology and Clinical Pathology. The laboratory of Clinical Pathology, situated in the hospital premises, and equipped with Automated cell counter and approximately 700 – 750 investigations are done per day.
Cytopathology department serves more than 1300 patients per year with Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology, Fluid Cytology and Pap smear studies. Laboratory of Histopathology is equipped with Leica Automatic tissue processor. There is 1600 autopsy and biopsy specimens are processed then reported per year. This Medical College Museum is containing Drug samples -500, Specimen – Medicine plants -40, History of Medicine plants- 60, Drug charts- 100
Library of Villupuram Medical College builds at 1600sq., with sitting arrangements of 100 Medical students for reading. It is containing good ventilation and lightning with good drinking water facility. There is a separate room for 100 students in inside and outside reading room with 100 students capacity. There is more than 8133number of textbooks and reference books are available and also 195 journals available, 60 international and 135 Indian journals.
This library have Staff reading room for 20 persons with A/c, proper ventilation and lightning. This library has Air Conditioned computer room with good infrastructure facilities and 25 computers available with internet facilities.
Villupuram Medical College is containing an in-campus hostel facility individually for Boys & Girls to serve 250 students. Each hostel has 84 rooms for students. Students mess facility on dividing system. Government Villupuram Medical College Hospital Has contained 720 beds in itself for patients care. This Hospital has been taking 2000 to 2500 outpatients per day. There is a separate biochemistry laboratory in the hospital which is functioning 24×7. This is providing biochemical diagnostic services for patient attending inpatients, outpatients and emergency departments attached to medical college & hospital. The biomedical waste generated is segregated and disposed of as per the biomedical waste management protocol.
