• Ahmedabad Medical College was founded in the year 1871 and it was affiliated with the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad and was affiliated with Gujarat University for undergraduate studies in 1951.
• The school had modest beginnings with 14 students who were trained as hospital assistants. The college is the largest resource of biomedical literature in the state of Gujarat.
• In 1879, Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy donated Rs.20,000 for that college after then the college was renamed B J Medical school, and got in touch with Bombay University and later became a higher position as the BJ Medical College.

• Central Library of BJ Medical College, which was established in 1946, with a capacity of 500 students.
• It contains 41,000 books and journals on the back pages, 3434 research articles, 2032 reports, activities, and an annual subscription of 236 current journals.
• The library recently provide a Titan CD server with 170 disks and 9 terminals attached to a CD server on the local network.
• This server can copy up to 170 CD images, and all users working on different nodes can access different CDs of their choice.
• BJMC has nine Lecture Theatres with well-equipped, air-conditioned gallery-type for teaching purposes.
• Out of these, 6 Theatres have a seating capacity of 600 students and LC VII has a seating capacity of 700 students.
• These seven halls are used by Medical College and another 2 halls are named Asmitha Bhavan and Cama Hall.
• In these, Asmitha Bhavan provides 500 seating capacity and Cama Hall provides 382 seating capacity.
• It also has an Examination Hall that has a seating capacity of 700 students that occupied an area of 1200 sq.m.

• The Hostel provides accommodation for 1358 UG students, 300 Interns, 650 residents, and 1208 Nurses and provides Residential quarters for 106 Teaching staff and 108 Non Teaching staff.
• 24-hour security arrangements are provided by well-trained and experienced security personnel.
• BJ Medical College has a good Recreation room with Music, Television, Indoor, and outdoor games with separate playgrounds, and also has enough spaces for Indoor games and Outdoor game facilities such as Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Kabbadi Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, and carrom.
