• Ahmedabad Medical College was started in 1871 and was linked with the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.
• In the beginning, only 14 students were admitted and trained as hospital assistants.
• In 1879, Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy donated Rs.20,000, and the college was renamed BJ Medical School.
• Later, it was affiliated with Bombay University and developed into BJ Medical College.
• In 1951, the college became affiliated with Gujarat University for undergraduate medical studies.
• Today, the college is well known and has the largest collection of biomedical literature in Gujarat.

• The Central Library of BJ Medical College was established in 1946 and has a seating capacity of 500 students.
• The library houses around 41,000 books and bound journals, along with 3,434 research articles and 2,032 reports and activity records.

Recently, the library introduced a Titan CD Server with 170 CDs and 9 networked terminals, allowing users across different nodes to access and work on multiple CD resources simultaneously.
BJ Medical College is equipped with nine well-furnished, air-conditioned, gallery-type lecture theatres for teaching purposes.
Of these, six lecture theatres have a seating capacity of 600 students each, while Lecture Theatre VII can accommodate up to 700 students.
