Quick Summary

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

GMC Coimbatore offers MBBS Course has a total of 150 seats annually which are divided as 15% All India quota and remaining for 85% Tamilnadu state quota.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category) to study Medical Course.

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission is based on the NEET-UG pattern and is subject to change. 85% Admission to the State Quota is currently being made by the Selection Committe, Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Admission to 15% of All India Quota is done by DGHS under the Union Government Health & Family Welfare Department.

Infrastructure

The Government Medical College in Coimbatore campus is having a vast area of 1,07,646.14 sq.m. (About 163 Acres), This Government Medical College is a G+2 storied building. Constructed in 1966, the college has met many developments to get the present structure. Coimbatore Government Medical College has a separate lecture hall for each department. The capacity of the lecture halls is far more than 150 students, with good seating, microphone facility, UPS, LCD Projector, OHP Projector, Slide Projector, Etc. to teach the students effectively and efficiently.

Auditorium & Exam Hall

The auditorium is built in par with the private auditorium. The capacity of the auditorium is more than 750 students. The beautiful lawn and other ornamental plants in front add a picturesque scenery and lighting effect to the already ‘eye-catching’ auditorium. In Coimbatore Medical College there are two examination halls with enough facilities to provide the students with a comfortable and quiet atmosphere for writing exams without a struggle. This college has contained 30 departments with good developed and well-equipped laboratories. Each has its special value with good technical things and handled by well-trained technicians.

Library

Coimbatore Medical College library is available with good facilities, Total area of the library available is 1200sq.mt.  There are three rooms, one for students with accommodations of more than 100 students, next one for Interns & Residents with accommodating of 50. And another one for staff with a capacity of 10 members. There is 13 staff for service including the chief and assistant librarian. Its working 8.am to 8.pm on all working days in 2 shifts. It has totally 25722 books and it has subscribed 103 Indian and 73 foreign journals, Internet facilities also available for gathering more knowledge.  The number of computer terminals available in the library is 10 with good condition.

Hostel

Boys Hostel in Coimbatore medical college is situated within the college campus, with the peaceful secured location, to facilitate the necessities of students. This Hostel has three blocks which have contained 89 rooms for students and 5 guest rooms for them and warden room also with there for watching them and caring for them safely. This Hostel can accommodate students with all the basic necessities, with minimal movement outside the premises, like separate dining hall for first years, recreation hall, study room, student lobby, parents waiting lobby, and equipped Gym for their physical activities. T.V. room with 48 chairs for their free time enjoyment. well protected campus with security, Residential warden within the premises.

Coimbatore Medical college women Hostel also situated separately in the college campus, which is also having the all facilities same as men’s Hostel have and also some other necessary things also available for women students. Residential warden & housekeeper within the premises. Laundry facilities are available for students. Sanitary napkin vending machines installed. first aid & medicines are provided under the supervision of wardens.

The Coimbatore District Head Quarters Hospital, Today is known as the CMC Hospital, started in 1892 at temporary sheds. Now its totally committed in building healthy people, not only by making available quality medical care facilities at the doorstep of every citizen in the rural corner of the State but also by giving medical facilities of the highest order, keeping pace with rapid technological developments in the field of medicine. Moreover, It had a Multi clinical department and hospital campus includes an OP block, a casualty block, ICU block, Specialty block, blood bank, library block, mortuary block, a two-storied central laboratory block, other ward blocks, an administrative block all in close proximity to each other and are well connected.

CMC hospital has total built-up area of 1,81,044.27 Sq.mt. with 75 buildings and bedded of 1400nos and avergely more than 5,500 outpatients are visits daily and have 30 departments.
