Introduction

The Gujarat Cancer Society was established in 1961 and has since provided care to cancer patients at M.P.Shah Cancer Hospital, Department of Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad and Community Oncology Center (COC), Vasna. Thanks to the work of GCS, the Gujarat government has given us the responsibility of developing a new medical college within a public-private partnership. In 2009, GCS established the GCS School of Medicine, Hospital and Research Center, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities.

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

GCS Ahmedabad offers Undergraduate MBBS Course with a total intake of 150 seats annually and the seats are divided as 75%  under State Govt Quota and balance 25% through Management Quota.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Infrastructure

The Government Cancer Society college campus has an area of 37250 square meters. Hospital has an area of 39500 square meters with Outpatients departments(OPD). Then the hostel & residential complex is spread over 25800 square meters.

Library

The Central Library is completely Air conditioned and is used by students of UG and PG and staff. The Library was built up within the area of 3483 sq.m. The Central Library has the reading capacity of 150 UG students, 150 PG students and 30 staff members in separate rooms. The library reading room is open 24 hours a day from 9 a.m. at 9 p.m. except Sundays and holidays.

The number of books in the library is 11914. 103 magazines were subscribed to 70 foreign magazines and 33 Indian magazines. Other facilities in the Central Library include Television, VCR and photocopies, Internet, a computer lab with 40 Computer nodes and an audiovisual room with many numbers CD / DVD. The departmental libraries have enough books for teachers and students.

Examination and Lecture Theaters

The medical college has four air conditioning gallery type lecture halls. Each of these having a capacity of 180 students. and the hospital has one air conditioning gallery type lecture hall. It has a capacity of 200. There are lecture halls with sophisticated audiovisual aids like LCD projector and audio system, chalk board, overhead projectors and internet connection. There is a 2 separate exam hall with a seating capacity of 250 students each. It was built within the 1220 square meter

Facilities

The GCS Medical College has such facilities like Library with Dedicated Faculty Wing, Demonstration Room, Seminar Room, Canteen and Cafeteria.The College has well-equipped laboratories, MRI, blood bank, CT scans, hostels, library, highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty. Classrooms, playground and other facilities to provide beautiful infrastructure to this college.

Hostel

The College offers a full range of accommodation with hostel fees including food and other recreational activities located on campus. There are separate hostel facilities available for boys and girls on the campus . All accommodation rooms are well equipped to meet all the basic needs of students. Separate mess facilities for boys and girls are available within the hostel complex. It also provides the security personnel for the safety and security of students at the hostel campus.

There are 189 rooms for UG students with 3 persons sharing, 50 rooms for interns with 3 persons sharing , 85 rooms for resident and PG students with 2 sharing and 40 rooms for nurses with 3 sharing. The accommodation provides a bed, mattress, and study table for each student.

Recreation Facilities

The GCS Medical College has all the necessary equipment to play Cricket, Throw ball, Volleyball, Basketball and Football. It has a separate playground for all sports. The hostel also has indoor facilities for indoor sports such as Badminton and Table tennis, Carrom and Athletics. Gymnasium is also available in both Men and Women hostels with well equipped instruments.

Affiliated Hospitals

The GCS Hospital and Research Center has 650 public beds and 30 intensive care beds. It is a state-of-the-art high-tech tertiary hospital. It has Fourteen fully equipped Modern Operation Theatres and Minor Operation Theatres with laminar air flow and hepa filters. All modern machinery including C-Arm Machines are fitted. According to the Assessment report, the hospital allows 1450 patients daily

Departments

The hospital has various departments such as General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT and Gynecology & Obstetrics. It also offers such non clinical facilities like 24 × 7 Ambulance, Blood bank, Kitchen, Pharmacy, Laundry, Intercom, and Central sterilization department. The GCS hospital has four clinical laboratories. These are Pathology, Microbiology, Hematology and Biochemistry.

The Government Cancer Society is located in the city of Ahmedabad, which is largest and the seventh most populous city. The city is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River at a distance of 23 km from the state capital, Gandhinagar and runs through several national highways and connects to major cities of the country. The college has frequent transport services around the clock from the city, located 4.3 km with 10min travel.

The Ahmedabad Railway station is one of the six operating divisions of the Western Railway Zone connects the city to Gujarat and the rest of India. The Medical College is located 2.1 km from the Rail junction which is about a 9 minute drive through Naroda Road. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport offers domestic and international flights, making it the busiest airport in Gujarat and the eighth busiest in India, located 7 km distance from the college with 10min drive.
