Government Medical College, Manjeri is the sixth government medical college under the Government of Kerala and by the Chief Minister of Kerala opened in 2013. It is the first medical college in the government sector in the State in 31 years, fulfills a long-cherished dream by the district. The college aims to become a medical college in the country that provides social medicine graduates to the community and discover and translate new knowledge in the field of medical science; providing the highest quality care, interdisciplinary and caring care to improve the health of the people to serve.

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Manjeri Medical College offers 110 MBBS -Under Graduate Course with total intake of seats annually and these are divided as 15% All India quota and 85% for Kerala State Quota.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)
Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.
Admission to GMCM is done through All India Medical Counselling as All India Quota 15 % and remaining through Kerala State medical counseling as State quota 85% conducted by state medical authorities.

Government Medical College, Manjeri has the Central Library which was built within the area of 1740 sq.m. There are two types of reading rooms available in the Library. In the reading room, where library books are kept, staff and students are not allowed to bring their books, they can read only library books which is called stack room. In the other called reading rooms, they can bring their books for reading.
GMCM Library’s stack room working hours start from 9 am to 6 pm and the reading room is open for 24 hours. It provides inside and outside reading rooms for students. Inside students reading room has the seating capacity for 75 students, Outside students reading room has the seating capacity for 100 students and the staff reading room has 30 persons seating capacity.
GMCM Library has 8745 books with 100 Journals including 76 indian journals and 24 Foreign journals for student’s reference. Moreover, it has various e-journals and IP-based subscribers that have subscribed to the Internet with 25 Nodes.
Examination and Lecture halls
GMC Manjeri offers 5 lecture halls, divided into 4 for the Medical College and another for the Hospital. The Medical college halls that can be seated 120 students and hospital theaters can be seated 150 students. All of these lecture halls are fully equipped with audio-visual aids such as a microphone, LCD projector, and overhead projector.
There is one Examination hall with 250 seats. The hall is fully air conditioned with CCTV and mobile jammers. It was built in an area of 250 square meters.
The College Principal should be the warden for the hostels. The Manjeri Medical College campus has separate buildings for Girls and Boys. The boys hostel can be accommodated with 174 boys and girls hostel can be accommodated with 233 girls.
GMCM hostel provides such facilities like good water, Mess with hygienic hostel campus, Air conditioned visitor room & study room. Government Medical College Hostel has 13 rooms with 55 PG students and 12 rooms with 48 Nurses. GMCM provides residential quarters for Teaching and Non Teaching staffs with 40 persons. There is Common rooms available for boys and girls with a total area of 27 square meters each.
Manjeri Medical College has good recreation facilities with television, music, indoor games and outdoor games. There is Outdoor games like Football, basketball, Cricket, volleyball and Indoor sports facilities such as Chess, Carrom and Table Tennis are available in the hostel. The GMC campus also provides a gym for boys and girls which has excellent coaches and well equipped instruments.
The Government Medical College Hospital has 470 beds, including daytime beds and other observation beds. The labor room is equipped to deal with normal and high-risk pregnancies. The hospital allows 2769 outpatients to cure their disease. The GMC Hospital has 8 well-equipped operating theaters, divided into 6 for major operations and 2 for small operations.
GMC hospital provides various departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, TB & Respiratory Medicine, Orthopaedics, Dentistry and Dermatology. GMCMH has some clinical Laboratories. These are Biochemistry, Microbiology, Serology, Hematology, Clinical pathology, Histopathology and Cytopathology. The hospital offers a full range of blood tests, X-rays, ultrasound, ECG, Barium, IVP etc and CT scan.
GMCMH provides such facilities including a teaching hospital, medical college building, mortuary block, dormitory, kitchen and dining room building and service block, laundry, Blood bank, Pharmacy, Central Sterilization Department, Intercom and Central Research lab. GMC Hospital Medical Record Section is partially computerized.

How to Reach
Government Medical College is located in Manjeri city in Malappuram district, Kerala state. Malappuram is the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state of Kerala located 54 km southeast of Calicut and 90 km northwest of Palghat. The city has good connectivity of the road network to the other region as the Medical College is located 13km from the city on NH71 Road and has local bus / taxi service that can reach the college within 30mins.
The Malappuram Southern Railway Station is the closest to the GMC Manjeri with a distance of 24 km and it travels 45 minutes and the second important city of Kozhikode has a Railway Junction at 46 km away from the college and takes an hour drive. The closest college airport is Calicut International Airport, which is well-connected to all cities both Domestic and International, and is 23 km away with a 45-minute journey length.
