Introduction

The Grant Government Medical College GMC Mumbai is a medical college affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Grant Medical College is started in the year 1845, then its one of the premier and oldest medical institutions that teaching Western medicine in Asia. Grant Medical College is between the 8 medical colleges of India which have been recognized by medical council of Singapore. GMC Mumbai offers undergraduate courses(MBBS), postgraduate courses, super speciality courses, and other technical courses. All these medical courses are recognized by MCI. At the starting stage, the MBBS course was affiliated to the Mumbai University. Later, the college came under the Maharashtra University of Medical Science, Nasik.

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Grant Medical College Mumbai offers MBBS -Under Graduate Course with total intake of 250 seats annually and the seats are allotted through 15% for All India Quota and 85% for Maharashtra State Govt Quota.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission to Grant Medical College Mumbai is done through All India Medical Counselling as All India Quota 15 % of MBBS seats and remaining through Maharashtra State medical counseling as State Quota 85% conducted by State medical authorities.

Infrastructure

Grant Medical College is spread over 43 acres in Mumbai. Sir J.J Group of Hospital covers an area 6890 sq.mt. GMC and the hospital consist of lecture theatre, demo rooms, common rooms, laboratory, library, skill lab, computer lab, auditorium, hostel, cafeteria, and mess. The lecture theatres have 250 seating capacity. The auditorium is built over an area 800sq.mt. The central photography cum AV aids are available with modern equipment which includes 11 LCD projector, 8 slid projector, and 8 overhead projectors.

Library

Grant medical college has a central library and departmental libraries. The central library covers an area of 6 acres. It has 45000 medical text and reference books, 449 Indian and foreign journals are subscribed annually. The library was maintained by highly experienced staff. It was working from 8 am to 10 pm. GMC central library offers reading rooms with 270 seating capacity and a stack room. It provides E-library, internet facility with desktop, wi-fi facility and also access to MUHS library.

Museum

Grant Medical College has a departmental museum. It has mounted specimens, models, charts, radiographs, bonesets, and catalogs. These are made by students, under the guidance of professors. In Anatomy department has 50 cadavers, to practice the students. The museum contains the models of skeletons of human and other vertebrates, Upper and Lower Limbs, Abdomen, and Nervous system.

Grant Medical College has separate hostels for girls and boys within the college campus.

Hostel

The GMC Hostel has 860 rooms for undergraduate students, 410 rooms for postgraduate students and 200 rooms for interns. Both are well-furnished with table, cupboard and attached bathroom facilities. The hostel provides mess with a separate dining area for girls and boys. In GMC hostel, air-conditioned study rooms, visitors hall, internet facility and recreational area with TV are offered. Seven canteens for staff and students.

Sports

Grant Medical College offers various kinds of sports activities with ample playfields. The outdoor stadium contains cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton grounds. The Gymnasium hall is available in the college hostel. The indoor games are table tennis, carrom, chess etc., The playground provides a safe and comfortable atmosphere for the students.

Sir J.J Group of Hospitals are associated to the Grant Medical College. In this hospital, totally 2845 beds, casualty-13, ICU-81. It has 18 major operation theatre and 2 minor operation theatre conduct approximately 80 operations per day. The radiological department has X-ray, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy and MRI scan and also it has approval by AREB and PNDT. Sir J.J Group of Hospitals provides 24×7 clinical services which include casualty, emergency services, surgical, radiological facility, blood bank, and the laboratories for various departments. The hospital has a lecturer theatre for practical classes.

This is the best medical college in Maharashtra with excellent infrastructure, good teaching faculty and its fees range is affordable. The college organizes many occasions like Cultural day, Sports and education festivals. It is one of the premium institutes of the country and it ranked 6 at all India level.
