Introduction

Haldwani Medical College came into existence in the year 2003 based on the populace and made a demand of this region, the State Government decided to set up a state-of-the-art Medical College in Haldwani under the auspices of the Uttarakhand Forest Hospital Trust(UFHT). GMC Haldwani has the proud privilege of being the first recognized Government Medical College in Uttarakhand, also the institute will be one of the best Medical Colleges in India.

Since then its journey has been continuous bloomed and recognized fully fledged College within five years. Moreover, the institute has highly qualified and dedicated senior professors and professionals of repute in their respective fields providing medical services of excellence to the people of Uttarakhand.

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Haldwani Medical College offers in a medical stream at the undergraduate (UG) level and admits 100 students for the MBBS course annually. Its aims at maintaining the highest levels of standards in all its activities and in addition, it’s a concerted effort and emerged as the premier Health Care Service provider to the state.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission to Haldwani Medical College is done through All India Medical Counselling as AIQ for 15 % seats and remaining through Tamil Nadu State medical counselling as State Quota 85% seats, conducted by state medical authorities.

Infrastructure

Haldwani Medical College is spread over an area of Approximately 90 acres which have been acquired by the Uttarakhand Forest Hospital Trust. The college having necessary infrastructural facilities are as per the MCI standards which includes that 520 bedded tertiary hospital, Administrative, Pre Clinical Building, audio/video System classrooms, Exam Hall, Central Library, Hostel for Boys & Girls, Mess, Gym, and Staff Quarters.

The College has Examination hall with 800Sq. meters floor area with a seating arrangement of 500students and 04 lecture theatres at a college with a capacity of 120 and one with 250 capacities and in addition one has at Hospital with a capacity of 120persons. All are with Gallery type with adequate facilities. The academic staffs are qualified with experienced faculties and department laboratories are on par with International standards.

Library

GMC Haldwani has modern Central Library covered area of 1125Sq.mtrs with has a collection of 12761books, 64 Indian and 44 Foreign Journals available. The library is fully computerized service and offers computer-based literature searches permitting access to databases such as Psyclit, CINHAL-CD, ERIC, MEDLINE, Health Plan-CD, Cancer-CD, AIDSLINE, Sport Discuss, and many other CD-ROM programmes.

Hostel

GMC Haldwani provides Separate hostel accommodation for boys and Girls of UG/PG/CRRIs/Nursing students. For UG Students there are 390 rooms available to accommodate each room 2persons and for Interns hostel 192 rooms with accommodating single person per room. In addition, Nursing Hostel and Resident Quarters are available within a campus. All rooms are semi furnished with adequate facilities and in addition each hostel block having additional facilities like a Recreation room, Visitors room, Reading room, and Internet room.

Dr. Susheela Tiwari Government (STG) Hospital is a referral Hospital of this college and became functional in 1995 with 520-bedded facilities. The Hospital provides Quality Health Care Services and free treatment to the BPL patients of the state as it has Sophisticated modern Equipment been installed in all the departments. Also, it has fully equipped 11 Bedded I.C.C.U. / I.C.U, fully automated and provides Tele-Medicine facility for the Doctor and other professional staff for keeping them abreast with latest developments in respective fields.

STG Hospital is being expanded continuously and upgraded to keep pace with both the ever-increasing dependence of the local and regional populace on its services as well as to keep with the advancements in the medical field.

The Haldwani city is well connected with the Indo-Gangetic plain by road with other states and the college is located the centre of the city and can reach any time as have regular buses are available as well as privately operated taxis and auto rickshaws are available around a clock service.

Haldwani Medical College is located at the foothill of Nainital in the city of Haldwani Uttarakhand state. The city is situated 275kms from NewDelhi and 277kms from state capital Dehradun and also it’s the largest commercial market in the state. Haldwani Railway station is direct rail links to many parts both in and outside the state to all major junctions which are located 2kms distance from the college. The Haldwani has air gateway as a domestic airport called Pantnagar Airport which is about 28 km from the college.
