MBBS Admission Counselling for Karnataka State Quota is conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Bangalore. 85% of MBBS seats in all government colleges located in the state of Karnataka are allotted to students who are native to the state. Apart from government colleges, management quota seats as well as NRI Quota seats in private medical colleges are allotted by KEA.

Karnataka State Medical Counselling Procedure

Karnataka State Quota Counselling conducted by KEA includes MBBS Seats in government and private medical colleges located in the state of Karnataka for Government Quota, Private Quota, Management Other Quota, and NRI Quota Seats. Few Private Quota Seats in self-financing colleges in Karnataka are open(OPN) for students from any state of India.

Allotment Process

Step 1: Karnataka MBBS counselling login

Candidates need to visit the official website (kea.kar.nic.in) Aspirants are required to login to their applicant portal with the unique security key and password which they are provided after the document verification process.

Step 2: Document Verification

Document verifications to be held at KEA Bangalore. Candidates should produce all the original documents depending on the category of seat he has applied for. Candidate should take all original documents along with one set of attested photocopies of all original documents as per their eligibility and reservation. If any candidate fails to produce any of the document, he/she will not be able to participate in MBBS Admission counselling.

After original document verification, the originals will be returned to the candidate and one set of the attested photocopies will be retained by KEA. You will get verification slip mentioning all the documents which are verified by KEA.

Non-Karnataka Students need not appear for verification of document. Document verification will be conducted online for Non-Karnataka Candidates.

Step 3: Display of participating institute

After login, the list of all the participating institutes in Karnataka MBBS 2023 counselling will display on the screen. Candidates will see the options as it is in the order given below-
* College wise
* Category wise
* Course wise
* Discipline wise

There is no limit for entry of options. Candidates are encouraged to enter more number of options to avoid disappointment of not getting allotment. The college options entered by the candidate during the first round will remain same for all the subsequent round of seat allotment. Option Entry done by the candidate before the first round will be the final list of options so make sure that you specify all colleges in the order of preference during the first round counselling itself.

Step 4: Choice filling and locking;
Students are advised to fill and lock their choices according to their preferences of colleges as locking of choices is very important. Candidates do not have any limits regarding entering their college options, so they can enter their choices filling. The final choices will be required to put on the last day because this choice will be considered final for all the rounds of KEA MBBS counseling.

Step 5: Mock Allotments

Every year KEA releases Mock allotment list to make sure that student get a chance to rearrange their college choices if they have done any mistakes. Access to mock result will be made available to the candidates. Candidates can giver their CET Number to know the mock allotment result. Candidates can also see college-wise, course-wise, category-wise cut off rank for Mock Allotment. If student did not get seat but his score is higher than the cut off score for his/her category, then he/she can rearrange their options before real allotment.

Step 6: Seat allotments;
On the basis of choices made by the candidates, the category of reservation and the availability of seats, authorities will release the list of seat allotments. The allotted college will be sent by SMS, and e-mail.

Candidates who have been allotted Medical seat in Private Medical Colleges under Government quota or Private quota should submit all their original certificates listed in Verification Slip to KEA, Bangalore. Admission order will be issued upon receipt of the original certificates.

Candidates who are allotted seat in Government Medical colleges or allotted under NRI / Others quota in private colleges need not submit original documents to KEA, but it need to be submitted at the college during the admission.

After allotment result is published, student has four options to choose from

  • Option-1: Satisfied with the allotted medical college and do not wish to participate in subsequent rounds of counselling.
  • Option-2: Satisfied with allotted medical college but want to participate in subsequent rounds. Candidates should pay the prescribed fees and are allowed to participate in next round. In the II nd round, if higher college choice gets allotted then I st round seat gets cancelled automatically.  If he/she did not get higher college choice, then first round seat will be retained.
  • Option-3: Not satisfied with the allotted college and want to participate in next round.
  • Option-4: Not satisfied with the allotted college by KEA and got MBBS seat in All India Counselling or other state counselling. so want to quit from KEA counselling.

Step 7: Reporting at college;

Students are advised to report to the allotted medical college as per the specified dates and the timings for the Karnataka MBBS 2023 admission because without the student reporting the admission will not be granted to them.

Second Round Allotment:

After completion of first Round allotment, any unfilled seats due to surrendering by students and newly added seats, will be available as vacant seats for second round. All candidates who have entered Option 2 and Option 3 during Ist round allotment will be eligible for participation in second round. The candidates will not be allowed to change their college preference options again.

Mop-Up Round Counselling

Candidates who are allotted Medical seat either in All India Quota/ 1st Round or in the Second Round of KEA are not eligible to participate in Mopup round counselling.

If candidate did not exercise any option during 1st and 2nd round counselling for the allotted seat is not eligible to participate.

Students who want to participate in offline Mopup round counselling should download the entry pass for mop-up round and produce it at the counselling venue on the day of mop-up counselling.

In case student cancels the allotted seat during Mopup round, entire fees amount paid will be forfeited and the candidate need to pay prescribed penalty amount. Moreover, he/she will not be eligible for any allotment through KEA in future.

The candidates have to be physically present for mopup counselling process. You cannot send any representative. Only one person (Parent / guardian) can accompany the candidate for counselling. The mopup round entry pass should have the details of the person coming with the candidate.

The mopup round counselling venue is KEA, 18th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru.

Stray round Counselling

If seats are not filled during the mopup round counselling, it will be handed over to the respective college for allotment.

Fees Forfeiture for Cancellation

If a candidate is allotted a seat in the First Round and reported to the college, want to cancel the seat before the last date notified for entry of options for the IInd Round, Rs.5,000/- will be deducted as processing fee and remaining fees paid will be refunded.

If a candidate is allotted a seat in the First Round / IInd Round and reported to the college or not, surrenders the seat after the completion of Second Round, the entire fees paid will be forfeited.

No surrender / cancellation of MBBS seat shall be accepted after mop-up round counselling.

Counselling Registration

Registration for Karnataka State quota counselling is conducted online. The participate in the counselling of Karnataka NEET 2023, a candidates must register on the official website of KEA (kea.kar.nic.in) follow the steps given below:

Step: 1
Students go to the official website and select ‘UG NEET-2023’ online registration. Enter details such as the candidate name, candidate contact address, category, PWD status, educational qualification details, date of birth, etc., Application ID and Password will be sent to the registered, Phone number of the candidate.

Step: 2
Upload images of a recent passport sized photograph, signature and thumb impression (left hand).

Step: 3
Pay the registration/counselling fee. The registration fee can be paid online using a credit card/debit card/net banking. Candidates can also pay fee offline by downloading the bank challan.
Karnataka NEET Counselling fee:

1. NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals -5000/-
2. General 2A/2B/3A/3B -1000/-
3. SC/ST/Cat-1/PWD -500/-

Step: 4
Save and print a copy of the application form and keep safe future use.

After registration, applied merit list is released by Karnataka state counselling authority, KEA. Soon after that you will be called for physical document verification at verification centers. After verification, you will get another merit list containing the verified candidates.

MBBS College Predictor for Karnataka MBBS Seats:

After the NEET results are announced by NTA, you will get your All India Rank and NEET Score. After state verified candidate list is released by Karnataka state counselling authority KEA, you can approach your counselor(if you are premium subscription with MBBSCouncil) to get your Karnataka State Rank and Category Rank.

Using these ranks, you can predict which Karnataka medical college you have chance to get using college predictor facility available in MBBSCouncil Android app. You can install this app from google play store.

Eligibility to Participate in Karnataka State Medical Counselling

Candidates applying for admission through the UG NEET counselling 2023 must fulfil the eligibility criteria.

  1. Candidates must be a citizen of India.
  2. Candidates must have qualified NEET 2023.
  3. Candidates must be at least 17 years of age to appear for NEET 2023
  4. Applicants have to score the minimum NEET qualifying percentile as per their category:  General category – 50 percentile, SC/ST/OBC category 40 percentile, General – PH category 45 percentile,  SC/ST/OBC – PH category 40 percentile
  5. Candidates who passes in qualifying exam but reappears for improving his performance is not eligible for allotment.

Eligibility for Linguistic Minority:

Linguistic Minority reservation is applicable for Telugu, Tamil, Kodava & Tulu of Karnataka domicile candidates only.

Provided he/she should have studied in Karnataka for a period of Ten Years from 1st Standard to qualifying exam and passed SSLC/10th or 2nd PUC / 12th from Karnataka state.

ELIGIBILITY for Private seats (GMP, OPN & MA, MK, ME, MC, MU, MM seats):
He / She should be Citizen of India and has qualified in the NEET exam along with academic eligibility.

Eligibility for Religious Minority:
Religious Minority (Christian, Muslim) of Karnataka Candidates & Non-Karnataka.
Even-though, all religious minority candidates from any Indian State are considered, priority will be given to Karnataka domiciled candidates.

Non-Karnataka Candidates:

Non-Karnataka candidates are not eligible for reservation. So, they should score 50th percentile in NEET examination. Kindly note that OBC/SC/ST eligibility criteria are applicable to Karnataka candidates only. They are eligible to apply for OPN private quota seats and OTHER quota in private medical colleges.

Compulsory Rural Service for one year:

All candidates who are allotted medical seat and taken admission to Medical course should undergo one year compulsory rural service in Karnataka Government hospitals as per Karnataka Compulsory Service Training.

To Claiming the Nativity & Domicile

The criteria of domicile must be fulfilled by the applicants who are applying for KEA MBBS admission for the Government seats

  • Candidates must have passed class XI and XII from an institute located in Karnataka and studied in Karnataka for minimum of 7 years.
  • Passed PUC/XII and candidate’s parents must have studied for minimum 7 years from an institute located in Karnataka
  • Candidate and either of his/her parent’s mother tongue is Kannada/Tulu/Kodava. Also, this parent must be a domicile of Karnataka state. Such candidates should undergo a Kannada Language test conducted by KEA
  • Candidate mother tongue should be Kannada/Tulu/Kodava and he/she should have Studied for 7 years in disputed Kannada speaking area of Akkalkot or South Sholapur or Gadhinglaj or Jath Taluks of Maharashtra State / Hosadurga or Kasargod or Manjeshwar Taluks of Kerala State. Candidate should undergo Kannada Language test.
  • Son or daughter of defense person who worked in Karnataka for a minimum of one year during the Two year period of study in +2/PUC.
  • Candidate who have studied in Kannada medium for TEN full academic years from 1st
    standard to 10th in places outside the Karnataka state.

Candidate must secure a minimum of 12 marks in Kannada Language test to be eligible for claiming reservation.

Required Documents for Medical Counselling

Applicants who are going to participate in the Karnataka MBBS counselling 2023 are required to carry the following documents mentioned below.

  • Printout of the Karnataka MBBS 2023 application form
  • Copy of bank challan
  • NEET 2023 Admit card
  • Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC)
  • Marksheet of 2nd PUC & 12th
  • Two recent passport size photographs
  • Must to carry a study certificate which must be attested by Block Education Officer (BEO) or Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI)
  • NEET scorecard
  • Domicile certificate, if applicable
  • Reservation certificate, if applicable
  • Slip of application fee payment
  • A duly sworn declaration regarding the mother tongue of candidates
  • If student is claiming Rural quota, then Rural Study Certificate from 1st to 10th standard for Ten Complete Years signed by the concerned BEO
  • If candidate is claiming Kannada Medium quota, then Kannada Medium Study Certificate from 1st to 10th standard for Ten Complete Years counter signed by the concerned BEO.
  • Hyderabad-Karnataka Region Reservation (Article 371 (j):) Candidates claiming this reservation must submit the certificate in Annexure – A of prospectus issued by concerned
    Assistant Commissioner.
  • Parent’s study certificate / Hometown certificate / Domicile certificate / Employment certificate / Parent’s Marks Card to claim domicile based on parent’s nativity.

Candidates have to produce some other documents also according to their criteria of eligibility so kindly refer to the official brochure.

    • minority both linguistic and religious in karnataka is same as private quota mbbs fees, which is around 8 lakhs/year.t here is no minority quota in govt colleges, it is applicable for minority private colleges.

    • If you have studied at least 7 years
      between (1st and 12th standard) and
      have completed either SSLC or 12 th
      std (PUC) means you are eligible to claim state quota.

      As you have studied in Karnataka for more than 7 years (including SSLC) you are eligible to claim state quota .

      If you are able to produce Caste Certificate or
      Caste Income Certificate or Income
      Certificate from the concerned tahsildar then you are eligible to claim the respective community. If not , you are eligible to apply only for general merit/ category seats .

      Documents Needed
