Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Kadapa was established in 2006 by the state of Andhra Pradesh and its main purpose of establishing this institute is to improve quality health care in this disadvantaged region and to provide access to medical education for all eligible students in the region.

The RIMS Kadapa was built over a span of 14 months on 210 acres with closely monitoring the quality of construction and completing the project in a timely manner. In the past, Rims General Hospital was a secondary care hospital, that is a district hospital. Later It was transformed into a tertiary care hospital called Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. During the current RIMS training phases the hospital remained on the same campus and was later relocated to the current campus. From its inception to the present, has undergone many developmental activities, an ongoing process.

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship.
The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine, and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Kadappa offers annual intake for MBBS Course has total of 175 seats and these are divided as 15% for All India quota and 85% for Andhra Pradesh State Quota counselling.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission to RIMS Govt Medical college is done through All India Medical Counselling for All India quota as 15% seats and remaining 85% through Andhra Pradesh State medical counseling as State quota counselling conducted by state medical authorities.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Medical College campus has spread over 210 acres of land with beautiful landscapes all-round. College, Hostel and residential blocks and hospital buildings are built up in a total of 182.25 acres. This Medical College building is built in 26,092 Sq.mt and Hospital and Hostel blocks are built-in the rest of the areas. RIMS’ college Examination hall is built-in a totally 931.16 sq.mt, these examination halls has 500 students seating capacity.

Lecture Halls

This Government Medical College has built with totally five lecture halls. There are four Lecture halls available in College building with a capacity of 240 students in each. One lecture hall is available with a seating capacity of 400 students in Hospital building. These Lecture halls are built as gallery type with Audio and Video facilities.


This Medical College’s Central Library is built in 2500 sq.mt with reading rooms and stock rooms. This Library working hour is 9 am to 8 pm and the reading room is available for 24 hours. There are two reading rooms available in Inside and Outside. Inside reading room has 200 students seating capacity and Outside reading room has 60 students seating capacity. This Library has a total of 12,698 Medical textbooks. 45 Journals are available here, those are 40 Indian and 5 foreign journals. In the E-library section, it has 15 computers and other facilities are available.



Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Hostel and residential complex built with 10,261 sq.mt on the college campus. Separate hostel facilities available for both boys and girls students. Boys hostel providing accommodation for 334 students. Girls hostel also providing 334 accommodation facilities for female students. These hostels are attached to the needed water and toilet facilities. This Hostel mess has comfortable dining facilities and hygienic food.

Study room and visitor rooms are available here. Separated PG hostels, Nursing hostels and Residential Quarters available for teaching and non-teaching staff. Here Indoor games facilities and playfield with outdoor games facilities are available.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Science Government Hospital in Kadapa is the teaching hospital of this Medical College. This Government Hospital is built in 59,553 sq.mt including OPT block. This Hospital has a totally of 715 beds. There is a separated registration area available for male and female and waiting areas also available for OPT block. This hospital has improved with special care facilities and the latest treatment facilities. Approximately patient’s attendance has reached 1300. The bed occupancy has been improved from 75% to 80% because of the developments.

Bed Distribution

The surgical rate also improved significantly, This Institute providing specialty services like Neurosurgery, Neurology, Urology, Cardiology and Psychiatry tropical diseases. Hospital beds are divided into the respective medical departments. General Surgery has 180 beds and General Medicine with 140. Obstetrics and Gynaecology have 120, Orthopedic 90, ENT, Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Dermatology department has 30 beds in each. Clinical laboratories are under the control of Pathology departments. Separate laboratory sections are available for microbiology, hematology, and biochemistry.

This hospital has 16 Operation theatres, 10 with major and 6 with minor Operation facilities. These theatres are divided for the respective medical departments. Intensive care units available with needed bed facilities, doctor and staff facilities. These care units equipped with all sorts of treatment stuff.

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa is located in Putlampally Village, 7 Kms away from Kadapa Town.  The city in the Rayalseema region of the south-central part of Andhra Pradesh state and its surrounded on three sides by the Nallamala and Palkonda Hills lying on the tectonic landscape between the Eastern and Western ghats.

Kadapa has good road connectivity to the other major places and bus services to various destinations of other cities across South India. The College has 6.7KM from the  Kadapa APSRTC bus Stand and can reach within 15 min through MDR 120 road and MDR 119 road. Kadapa has a Railway station and its well connected to other states of India, Situated at a distance of 6KM from the college. Moreovere, Kadapa has a Airport, located 18.5 km from the medical college which is Domestic Terminal and connected with all the Major cities in India.
