The Government Medical College Srikakulam was established in 2008 and inaugurated by the then late Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy. This was formerly known as the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.  Its affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and providing 100 MBBS seats annually and its increased to 150 in 2019 and in addition, the Institute offers o7 PostGraduates courses too.

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship.
The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS)Srikakulam, offers 150seats for MBBS Course intake annually and out of this 15% seats allotted through All India quota counselling and balance 85% through Andhra Pradesh State Quota.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission to RIMS Srikakulam Govt Medical college is done through All India Quota as 15 % MBBS seats and remaining 85% through Andhra Pradesh State medical counseling as State Quota which is conducted by state medical authorities.

This Government Medical college campus with a total area of 17,511 sq.Mts. The College buildings are built in 11,620 Sq.mts. The Hostel and residential buildings are built up in 14,600 Sq.mts. Hospital buildings including OPD block built-in 48,800 Sq.mts. This college building built with the two Examination halls, each with a seating capacity of 125 students. This Medical college has five lecture halls.

Lecture Halls

There are 4 halls with a seating capacity of 120 in each are situated in college. In hospital one lecture hall located with 150 seating capacity and all facilities. These are built-in gallery type with audio and video facilities. Here common rooms available for students with the attached toilet.


Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Central Library is built within 1650 sq.mt. It’s with separated reading rooms, stack room and fully air-conditioned. There are Inside and Outside reading rooms available and each with 75 students seating capacity. This Library has a totally of 7212 books and 82 journals, those are 72 Indian and 10 foreign journals. The Digital Library of this college has 25 computers and with all the facilities. Central photography section is also available with all types of equipment and staff facilities.



RIMS Medical college’s Hostel and residential complex was built in 14,600 sq.mt in inside the college campus. This complex has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls students. Boys Hostel has 110 rooms with a comfortable bedding arrangement, good water facilities, and toilet facilities. Girls hostel also has 110 rooms with the facilities as the previous hostel. These Hostels have good Canteen facilities with hygienic foods and comfortable dining rooms.

PG and Staff Hostel 

It has separated PG hostel with 32 rooms and separated Nurses and interns hostels are available. This campus also has teaching and non-teaching staff residential facilities. Students are monitored by the hostel wardens. complete safety of the students is monitored and ratification by the Gender Harassment committee and Anti Ragging Committee. Separated Air-conditioned visitor rooms and air-conditioned study rooms with computer and internet facilities are available.


Rajiv Gandhi Medical College Provides a separated recreation room with Television, Music and indoor games for both boys and girls hostel. Here Indoor Games are available with all sorts of stuff. Spacious playfields are available for Outdoor Games like Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Shuttlecock and Hand Ball and available with needed stuff. The gymnasium is also available with complete equipment.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences’ college Teaching Hospital is the General Government Hospital. This Hospital has 532 beds and it is built up in 48,800 sq.mt with comprises of 13 blocks including OPT block. Approximately more than 700 outpatients are visiting here daily and 80 % of the beds are occupied by the inpatients care. These beds are divided for the respective medical departments.

Bed Distribution

General medicine and General Surgery has 120 beds in each. Pediatrics with 60 beds, orthopedics has 64 beds, Obstetrics and Gynaecology with 93 beds and TB and respiratory medicines have 30 beds. The central clinical laboratory of this hospital is control under the Pathology department and also separate section like Microbiology, Hematology, and Biochemistry departments are available. This Hospital has 10 Operation theatres those are 8 Major and 2 minor.

Operation Theatres 

These theatres are divided for the General Surgery, orthopedics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments to 2 theatres in each. ENT, Ophthalmology, Emergency, and Septic departments have 1 theatre in each. Intensive care units like ICCU have 7 beds, ICU with 16 beds, SICU and NICU/PICU each with 8 beds are available. These units are fully air-conditioned and Central Oxygen Supply, Monitor, Ventilator and Pulse Oximeter facilities are available.

RIMS Medical College is situated Srikakulam city in AndhraPradesh State. The city has a Buddhist heritage site and some unique features. Srikakulam city has good connectivity with Road and Rail network as the Medical college is located within a city and has frequent transport service availble to reach college around a clock.

Srikakulam has a Railway station and its one of Main Junction in the state and situated in 12.2 km from the medical college and can reach within 30 min through Kotturu to Srikakulam Road. Visakhapatnam is the nearest City of this College, and has a International Airport which is 120Km from the college and takes 2hours travel duration.

The library and classrooms are good. Labs are very decent. In our college the teachers are helpful, knowledgeable and having good skills. Events organised are good.
