The University College of Medical Sciences(UCMS)was Established in 1971 as a Constituent College of University of Delhi by the efforts of the Health Minister of Delhi due to many students were left out and denied the opportunity to study medicine as lack of Medical colleges in Delhi. Initially, UCMS started in North Campus of Delhi University and later it was shifted to the Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi and followed by in 1986 shifted to its present location of Dilshad Garden and associated with Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, as its teaching hospital.

The UCMS has well-experienced faculty and they’ve achieved several laurels at national and international levels for research and related activities. In addition, UCMS was the first Indian medical college to start a Medical Humanities Group and is organized in 2011 the first ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ workshop for medical students in India.
The college offers Medical, Paramedical courses, and caters to the health care needs for the surrounding border of East Delhi community. The UCMS is one of the three public trauma centres in Delhi and also it was network centre for the National Brain Research Centre and serves as the nodal centre for AIDS and Safdarjung Hospitals.

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
UCMS Delhi offers in a medical stream at the undergraduate (UG) level and admits 150 students for the MBBS course annually. The Admissions are based upon highly competitive premedical entrance examination of NEET which is conducted by NTA.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)
Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.
Admission to UCMS Delhi is done through All India Medical Counselling as AIQ for 15 % of MBBS seats and remaining through Delhi State medical counselling as State Quota 85% seats, conducted by Delhi University.

The UCMS has a Central Library and is located in a separate 3 storied building of Library-cum-Conference Block adjacent to the main building of the college. The UCMS library strives to provide timely, accurate and current information, and to provide an appropriate and comfortable academic environment for the users. The college has hostel facilities for UG students within a Campus of single room accommodation for both boys and girls. The Hostel complex consists of 2 building for Boys with 522 rooms and one building for Girls with 180 rooms. In addition, separate hostel facilities for PG students, Interns and Faculty of Teaching and Non Teaching staff.
