- The seed was sown in the year 1882 when it was started as a small town dispensary on Arcto Road of Vellore 23 years later, It was moved to a new building in the heart of the city in 1915 and opened by Governor Madras Lord PENTLAND, known as HOSPITAL PENTLAND and began functioning as one of the State Headquarters Hospitals.
