• Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is one of the premier medical institutes of India.
• This was set up on 01 May 1948 by the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee by the combination of various defence medical organizations.
• The Institute provides training to Medical under-graduate and postgraduate and nursing students with career prospects in the defence services.
• The AFMC was established on 04 August 1962 to intake medical officers for the Indian Armed Forces.

• Armed Forces Medical College has located in an environment-friendly campus spread over approximately 119 Acres at Ramtekri in Eastern Pune.
• Armed Forces Medical College has a huge library it have more than 50,000 books.
• AFMC has a total of 29 medical departments.
• AFMC have 2 huge auditoriums, Bharadwaj & Dhanvantari which accommodates more than 1000 people.

Hostel

• Armed Forces Medical College is fully residential with separate hostels for boys and girls.
• Cadets should reside in the hostel for the entire duration of the course.
• The Boys Hostel of AFMC was built in 1965 and comprises 6 blocks of three floors each, it has a total of 277 rooms of approximately 8 sq.mt area with single accommodation.
• 62 rooms of approximately 18.5 Sq.mt area with the double accommodate facility and rooms are fully furnished.
• The new Boys Hostel has 4 blocks constructed, each with 18 spacious rooms.
• In 1984 women’s hostel of this Medical college was constructed and accommodated 130 students in 70 single and 30 double accommodate rooms.

• In 1869, the hospital of AFMC was established, This was one of 3 military hospitals established in the same year at and around Poona.
• This Hospital presently occupies 6 large buildings.
• Hospital was re-designated as Command Hospital on 08 April 1967, which is spread over 105 acres of the land and largest hospital in the Indian Army.
• Approximately more than 2,750 Out Patients are visiting here.
• Plastic Surgery Department was started in 1955 and the first of its kind in India.
