Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is one of the premier medical institutes of India.
This was set up on 01 May 1948 by the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee by the combination of various defence medical organizations.
The Institute provides training to Medical under-graduate and postgraduate and nursing students with career prospects in the defence services.
The AFMC was established on 04 August 1962 to intake medical officers for the Indian Armed Forces.
AFMC received accreditation from NAAC with ‘A’ Grading with a grade point average of 3.51 out of a maximum of 4, t was the highest ever awarded to any institution in India.

After MBBS course completion in AFMC Pune, candidates are obliged to complete compulsory rural service. If candidates skip service, they need to pay service bond penalty to proceed for medical council registration / post graduate studies. Details of Service Years and Penalty is given below. Hostel
Armed Forces Medical College is fully residential with separate hostels for boys and girls.

The Boys Hostel of AFMC was built in 1965 and comprises 6 blocks of three floors each, it has a total of 277 rooms of approximately 8 sq.mt area with single accommodation.
62 rooms of approximately 18.5 Sq.mt area with the double accommodate facility and rooms are fully furnished.
The new Boys Hostel has 4 blocks constructed, each with 18 spacious rooms.
In 1984 women’s hostel of this Medical college was constructed and accommodated 130 students in 70 single and 30 double accommodate rooms.
