MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, child health, orthopaedics, emergency medicine and various specialities. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India.

Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences offers MBBS Course has a total of 100 seats annually which are divided as 35% Management /NRI quota and remaining 65% for Tamilnadu State Quota.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. All Higher Secondary School(HSC) Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST/OBC, 40% in board exams; 45% for PH Category) to study MBBS Course.

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, and private medical college admission will be based on NEET scores and the seats will be allotted through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission to Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences for State Quota / Management Quota / NRI Quota is done through State Medical Counselling. Any unfilled NRI seats will be filled by college authority if they are not filled during the state medical counselling.

Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences is spread over 63 acres on the NH-45 /GST Road in Maduranthagam, this is popularly called KIMS. The Institute doctors with excellent skills, including professionalism and ethics. It has an established position with modern infrastructure, modern facilities, and patient care equipment. It has a well-equipped rescue unit, with skilled doctors all the time dealing with trauma and emergency cases at any time.

Lecture Hall

There are two academic blocks in KVIMS that are exceptional. The “auditorium” commonly used by students is still a miracle. It can accommodate 1,200 students and is equipped with centralized air conditioning, other services and a spectacular stage with excellent lighting. It is located nearby administrative blocks. Classrooms are well-designed that contain everything needed to create a pleasant learning atmosphere. The examination room is available with 950 sqmts provding capacity for 700 people. There are four classrooms available in the college building for up to 650 students and one available for 150 in the hospital building.


The library has been designed with plenty of natural light, in an atmosphere conducive to quiet individual and group lessons and fun reading. It covers an are of 1600 sq mts. This library has fully air-conditioned facilities. There is a reading room available with seating capacity for 360 students. There are separate reading rooms for students and employees of PG. The library has a total of 70,029 medical textbooks. 70 Indian newspapers and 30 foreign newspapers are available in the e-library section, and the central photography section is available. The library is open every day from 8:00 Am to 10:00 PM.



Students feel at home and feel comfortable during their stay at the hostel. Our institution is a 100% secured campus where students are closely monitored by members of the Disciplinary and Prevention Committee. This Hostel has a common hall, TV hall, gym, office room, library, housekeeper room, and modern kitchen. Its provides a peaceful atmosphere for students to stay and study. These hostels has totally 174 rooms with 415 accommodation facilities for students. There is separate PG Hostel available with 24 rooms and Interns hostel with 50 rooms. Separate teaching and non-teaching Staff quarters are available with all sorts of facilities.

Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital is equipped with 550 beds, these are distributed to the respective departments. Hospital is built over more than 25,000 sq mts area. There are 10 operation theatres available. The General Surgery Department has 4 units with one head in each unit. The faculty is well-established because of modern facilities and infrastructure enabling the training of students at a global level. A well-equipped complex of operating rooms with 8 rooms for simultaneous operations. Many super-specialized surgical cases are also conducted, including urology, surgical gastroenterology, plastic surgery, paediatric oncology, head, and neck oncology.


The general medicine department is well developed. It consists of 4 units led by a capable HOD well supported by 4 professors with 20-25 years of experience. The OBG department is the busiest department that has no less than 350-400 cases a day. The ward is equipped with many talented clinician-researchers who motivate students to learn and attain skills, which are the most important elements to support obstetric patients. The learning includes technical knowledge from related healthcare professionals, and other administrative work such as acceptance, patient transfer, post-operative care and discharge, etc.


The ward is well equipped with modern hi-tech instruments and equipment to make world-class patients treatment only at low or free cost. There are about 150-200 outpatients a day and over 2,000 surgeries are performed annually. This hospital is famous for knee replacement surgery. A separate unit works 24 x 7 for emergency services. It has gradually developed into an RNTCP and DOTS center, which treats almost 100-120 patients annually. It also has an advisory unit that provides advice to patients with tuberculosis. The departments are working to provide the public with high-quality health care, as well as in line with the Institution’s motto for creating competent doctors.

Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences is located on NH-45 GST Road in Madurantakam in Kancheepuram District, 74 kms from Chennai, the Tamilnadu Capital. Madurantakam City has a good connectivity with the Road and Rail network. The college is located 11 kms from the city as it can be reached by local transport within 30 minutes.

Madurantakam Train Station is 12 kms away from this medical college, and can be reached via NH32 and GST within 30 minutes and from Chengalpattu train station 40 minutes away. Chennai International Airport is the nearest Airport to the Medical College, located 55 km and can be reached via NH32 within 1:30 hours.
