Patiala medical college is one of the oldest government medical college run by the Punjab state government. GMC Patiala was located in the district called Patiala in the state of North-West Punjab. GMC Patiala medical college offers MBBS medical programs under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced staffs with the state of the art infrastructure. GMC Patiala annually in-takes with 225 seats of MBBS admissions with the total duration is 5 ½ years it includes of 1-year Compulsory Rotatory Resident Internship. (Recognized for 150 seats. Permitted for renewal of permission for increase of seats from 150 to 200 u/s 10(A) for the year 2019-20, Permitted for increase of seats from 200 to 225 under the EWS quota amendment of 103rd constitution for the year 2019-20).
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)
It is compulsory for students to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central & Deemed Universities will be based on NEET score. Seats for All Medical & Dental Colleges/Institutions/Universities will be offered through counselling based admission on the NEET Score/Rank, Preferences of Colleges or Seats available.

Patiala government medical college is spread over with the area of 105 acres of the whole campus. The Patiala government medical college is spread over with the academic buildings of 30,000 sq.mt which includes hostels / residential complexes for both boys and girls students, college library, auditorium, examination halls, lecture halls, mess & canteens and the other facilities too. Government Patiala hospital buildings are spread over with 35,000 sq.mt and it has all of the modern level facilities too.
The facilities available in the college campus include 2 examination halls with the area of 372 sq.mts each with 200 seating capacity. It has been equipped with all kind of facilities like CCTV, audio-visual aids, computer with internet-connected facilities. There are 6 lecture halls available in the hospital building with 320 seating capacity. Also, there is a separate common room available for both boys and girls with the area of 200 sq.mts individually.
Patiala government medical college has an air-conditioned library facility with the area of 3,200 sq.mt. This library owns 23,005 number of books with the availability of 33 Indian journals & 52 foreign journals. It contains 2 separate reading rooms for both staffs & students with the seating capacity of 400 persons. Patiala medical college library offers 10 computers facility for the benefit of the library users. The college library opens from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm on all of the working days.
Patiala government medical college hostels are situated inside the college campus. There are 3 hostel buildings available on the campus, 2 hostel for girls & 1 hostel for boys situated separately. These hostels can accommodate nearly 600 students. Both hostel rooms are available on the basis of sharing, 3 persons are allowed to share each of the room. Both hostels are protected by male and female wardens separately. GMC Patiala hostel owns a separate study room with the availability of computers and internet connections in each hostel.
These hostel rooms have all kind of facilities like comfortable beds, cupboards, bathrooms attached and toilet facilities and so on. The hostel provides R.O purified drinking water and two-wheeler parking facility too. Also, both hostels having a separate visitor room, recreation room with TV, indoor & outdoor games for students. The college hostels are providing a mess/canteen facility with the separate spacious dining halls too.

Famous Rajindra hospital was built in the year 1954. After that, it has been affiliated with the GMC Patiala. Rajindra government hospital is one of the major hospitals in the state of Punjab. Patiala medical college students do their clinical practices through these hospitals such as TB hospital, Padma. Shri. Dr.Khushdeva Singh chest & diseases hospital and it’s primary health centres.
Rajindra government hospital owns nearly 18 operation theatres such as 16 major operation theatres & 02 minor operation theatres. The hospital doctors perform 29 major operations & 23 minor operations everyday to patients. Mata Kaushalaya Devi hospital which was formed in 1890 after that it has been renamed as a Lady Dufferin hospital is also attached to this medical college. The Rajindra hospital treats approximately 2,000 number of outpatients and it consists of 900 beds for the clinical purpose. The hospitals are fully furnished and it consists of latest medical apparatus with modern devices which helps to give better treatment to the peoples who need the medical facility.
