Sarojini Naidu (SN) Medical College was started as a medical school in the year 1854 for training doctors for the Indian Army. Initially, the college named after Lt. Governor Sir James Thomson who the founder of this school and mainly it’s started for the benefit of military personnel. In 1939, the school was upgraded as a Medical College to meeting the growing demands for qualified Doctors in the then United Provinces. Then the College started awarding the degree of M.B.B.S. of Agra University (now Dr B. R. Ambedkar Univeristy) and the first batch of doctors passed out in the year 1944.

In 1947, the college was renamed after Sarojini Naidu Medical College, named after the first lady Governess of Uttar Pradesh, Poetess, freedom fighter, ‘Bharat Kokila’ Smt. Sarojini Naidu, famous as have the honour of being and it’s one of the first three medical schools in India. Since then SN Medical College Agra is growing in every sphere and is recognized at both national and international level for excellence in medical education, Patient care and research work. Also, the name changed to Sarojini Naidu Hospital from the Thomson Hospital after attainment of independence.

SN Medical college Agra graduates and postgraduates are well established throughout the globe, serving the sick and glorifying the rich history of this college. Also, the College provides a full range of research and informational services to support experimental, developmental and outcomes research.

MBBS Course

SN Medical College Agra offers in medical stream at the undergraduate (UG) level and admits 150 students for the MBBS course annually. The Admission to MBBS course is made on the basis of NEET competitive examination.The annual intake of MBBS is 15 % seats are filled through All India Quota and remaining 85% seats filled through State Quota of UP Government based on reserved categories.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

SN Medical College & Hospital, Agra is a well-outlined campus and surrounded three sides by residential and market areas. The Medical College and Hospital have separate blocks and buildings for different departments. S. N. Medical College & Hospital is spread over an area of 24.49 acres with all major Infrastructures available within the campus.

The Medical College has totally 5 lecture theatres (LT 1 to 5) for the teaching purpose out of two of which are air-conditioned and one with seating capacity 418 persons and it is used as an auditorium for cultural/institutional programmes. The seating Capacity for remaining four Lecture theatres are 260-2nos and LT 4&5 with 275 & 130 persons at located in the Hospital block.


The Central Library is located in the centre of the college and it’s one of the few buildings which existed at the time of the beginning of the School in 1854. The collection of the books are nearly 16304 books out of which around 1000 books are from various disciplines such as Pure Science, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Social Sciences & Humanities.

Medical Journals Back volumes of 292 and Journals of allied subjects are available way back from 19th Century. The library has Internet facility available for all members as Teachers and students.



SN Medical College Agra has three hostels for undergraduate students which are Govind Ballabh Pant Hostel for junior students, Senior Boy’s hostel for senior M.B.B.S. students and Girl’s hostel. The strength can accommodate nearly both boys and girls are 704students and all rooms are semi furnished with adequate facilities available.

Besides these, the college has separate PG Students hostel, Interns, Resident and Nursing hostel which are all located within the campus and in addition the hostel complex has a Study room, Internet and small recreation room.

Canteen and Nescafe stall are available in the College campus for staff and students.


SN Medical College campus offers sports facility for students, which includes playfields like football, Hockey, basketball, and Kho-kho and indoor game facilities like badminton, Table tennis, Volleyball, Chess and Carrom are available. Additionally, there is a large gymnasium with fully equipped.

SN Medical College & Hospital is situated in the heart of Agra (UP), major tourist destination the famous old city of the Taj Mahal is located and its 378kms west of the state capital, Lucknow and 206kms south of the national capital New Delhi.

The college is located in a well-outlined campus, adjacent to main Mahatma Gandhi Road and can access by road round a clock. The City has three main railway stations like Agra Cantt, Raja Ki Mandi, and Agra Fort Railway station, all are well connected with all major Indian cities. The nearest Railway station is Raja Ki Mandi at a distance of 2kms from the college.  Agra has a Domestic Airport Terminal at a distance of 10kms from the college and IG Int’l Airport- Newdelhi is 225kms away from the college with 4-5 hrs travelling duration.
