• Baroda Medical College was founded in 1946 by Sir Pratap Singh Gaikwad, the former ruler of Baroda the college started in June 1949 with 40 students.
• The Medical College Hospital was acquired by the Government of Gujarat in 1907 and renamed S.S.G Hospital Vadodara after the former ruler of Maharaja Sayajirao II and also the hospital is designed in Indo-Saracen style.

Infrastructure

• The Medical College Library was established in 1949 with the two floors of a separate building on the college campus since 1990 spread over 4000 sq.m.
• The Library has separate reading halls and rooms for undergraduate students that has 500 capacity, the postgraduate reading room has 80 capacity and staff reading has 50 capacity including a new hall near the School of Physiotherapy.
• It provides 37885 books with 111 journals including 72 Indian journals and 39 Foreign journals.
• It also has a separate air-conditioned computer room for students and staff with 98 computers that has broadband internet access.
• GMC Baroda provides six Lecture Theatres with well-equipped, gallery-type, and Air-conditioned for teaching purposes.
• Out of these, LC I has 750 seating capacity that also serves as an Auditorium at times and LC II has 350 seating capacity, and LC III, LC IV, LC V has 240 capacity each which is used by Medical College.
• Then, LC VI has a 300 seating capacity which is used by Hospital.
• BMC also has an Examination Hall that provides 250 seating capacity that was built up with an area of 250 sq.m.

Hostel

• There are a total of 225 rooms for UG students with 2 or 3 people sharing, 24 rooms for Interns with 2 sharing, 353 rooms for residents including PG students with 1 or 2 sharing, and 254 capacity for Nurses.
• It also provides Residential quarters for Teaching staff and Non Teaching staff with 52 and 48 capacities for accommodation.
• BMC provides good Recreation facilities for students’ extracurricular activities such as Music, Television, Indoor, and outdoor games with separate playgrounds for all types of games at MS University.
• There are Indoor and Outdoor games like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Basketball, Kabbadi Tennis, Table Tennis, Bridge, Chess, and carrom.
• The gymnasium is also available in both hostels for students’ health that have well-trained staff and well-developed equipment.

Affiliated Hospitals

• Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (S.S.G.H) Vadodara was started in 1865 with 56 beds.
• Now, a tertiary care center with a 1500-beds teaching hospital is attached with 14 Operation Theatres.
• It has an average annual outdoor attendance of approximately 9 lakh patients, an average admission of 67,000 patients, and a bed rate of 95.2%.
• SSG Hospital provides 24-hour emergency services and receives approximately 290 emergencies each day.
• It has various laboratories that conduct about 2000 tests daily, and the Radio Diagnostic Department carries about 600 radiological tests per day.
• Health Centres – Primary Health Centers and Rural/Urban Health Training Centers.
• RHTC – Sokhada is located 14 km from the college.
• UHTC – Fatehganj located 3 km from the college

• The Main bus station is 2 kilometers from the college and takes about 6 minutes to travel via Aurobindo Ghosh Road.
• Vadodara Railway Station is situated at a distance of 6 km from the college which is about 6 minutes to travel.
• In addition, Vadodara Domestic Airport is the nearest airport from the college at a distance of 6km about 15 minutes journey via Pani Tanki Road.
