Baroda Medical College is a well-known educational institution under the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of Gujarat. The college was founded in 1946 by Sir Pratap Singh Gaikwad, the former ruler of the Baroda and the college started it in June 1949 with 40 students.

Since its inception, the College has advanced a long way in providing quality medical education by the Medical Council of India, including undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses from Gujarat and other states that are enrolling in all India quotas. It offers extensive amenities for Patient care and research . The college’s pre- and para-clinical departments assist all operational departments in practically providing treatment for all types of medical conditions. Medical college campus including Government Physiotherapy College and Government Nursing College of BSC (Physiotherapy) and BSC (Nursing courses) are trained.

MBBS Course

The MBBS course is a four and a half year period followed by a one year compulsory rotating residential internship. The lasting 12-month internship includes short courses in community health, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, child health, orthopedics, emergency medicine and various specialties. All these are according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India. Admission to the MBBS program is based on the candidate marks obtained in the NEET-UG rank held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

BMC Vadodara offers Undergraduate MBBS Course with a total intake of 250 seats annually and the seats are divided as 85%  under State Govt Quota and balance 15% through All India Quota.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

Admission Procedure: It is compulsory for medical enthusiasts to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after 12th grade who wish to get MBBS admission. All the Government, Private, Central and Deemed Universities will be based on NEET scores and the seats for all colleges / institutions / universities will be offered through counselling based on the eligibility Score/Rank, Preferences of colleges and seats available.

Admission to Baroda Medical College is done  through 15% seats for All India Quota counselling and Remaining 85% allotted through state Quota seats.

The Medical College Library was established in 1949 with the Medical College Baroda and has been located on two floors of a separate building on the college campus since 1990 with spread over 4000 sq.m. The Library a has separate reading halls and rooms for undergraduate students that has 500 capacity, postgraduate reading room has 80 capacity and staff reading has 50 capacity including a new hall near School of Physiotherapy.

It provides 37885 books with 111 journals including 72 Indian journals and 39 Foreign journals. The library has audiovisual aids, television, digital video player, photocopying facilities. It also has a separate air-conditioned computer room for students and staff with 98 computers that has broadband internet access. Undergraduate and postgraduate students and teachers can access the college’s subscription online journals through the computers and internet facilities provided by the library.

Examination and Lecture Theaters

GMC baroda provides six Lecture Theatres with well-equipped, gallery-type and Air conditioned for teaching purposes. Out of these, LC I has 750 seating capacity. It also serves as an Auditorium at times. LC II has 350 seating capacity and LC III, LC IV, LC v V having 240 capacity each. These all Lecture halls are used by Medical College. Then, LC VI has 300 seating capacity which is used by Hospital. BMC also has a Examination Hall that provides 250 seating capacity. It was built up with the area of 250 sq.m.



Baroda Medical College provides separate hostels for both boys and girls within the campus. The residential area is located in a pollution free and has such facilities including cable television, telecommunication equipment, 24-hour security, water and electricity. The hostel also offers cafe and dining area with comfort, Telephone and cable TV to meet the requirements of the students

There are a total of 225 rooms for UG students with 2 or 3 persons sharing, 24 rooms for Interns with 2 sharing, 353 rooms for residents including PG students with 1 or 2 sharing, 254 capacity for Nurses. It also provides Residential quarters for Teaching staff and Non Teaching staff with 52 and 48 capacity for accommodation.

Recreation Facilities

BMC provides good Recreation facilities for student’s extracurricular activities such as Music, Television, Indoor and outdoor games. It also has separate playfields for all type of games at MS University. There is Outdoor games like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Basketball, Kabbadi and Tennis etc. In addition, indoor games like Table Tennis, Bridge, Chess and carrom. Gymnasium is also available in both hostels for student’s health that have well trained staff and well developed equipment.

Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (S.S.G.H) Vadodara was started in 1865 as the Dufferin’s 56 beds countess. It was acquired by the Government of Gujarat in 1907 and renamed S.S.G Hospital after Maharaja Sayajirao II, the former ruler of Vadodara. S.S.G Hospital is designed in Indo-Saracen style. This hospital is the biggest referral hospital in central Gujarat.

Sir Sayajirao General Hospital, a tertiary care center with a 1500-bed teaching hospital attached to the college, which appeared in 1865 to the Countess of Dufferin Hospital. The teaching hospital of the Baroda Medical College. It caters to the primary, secondary and tertiary health needs of the people of central Gujarat and its neighboring states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Also, its participates in various social benefits and national health programs.

It has an average annual outdoor attendance of approximately 9 lakh patients, an average admission of 67,000 patients, and a bed rate of 95.2%. It also offers elective high-end surgeries such as oncosurgeries, endo-urologic surgeries, laparoscopic surgery and plastic surgery. SSG Hospital provides 24-hour emergency services and receives approximately 290 emergencies each day. Its various laboratories conduct about 2000 tests daily, and the Radio Diagnostic Department carries about 600 radiological tests per day. On-campus medical nursing home is a 22-bed facility for patients seeking private beds.

How to Reach

The Medical College is situated at Vadodara in the state of Gujarat. It was formerly called Baroda and is located on the banks of the Vishwamitri River which is 141 kilometers away from the state capital, Gandhinagar. Baroda Medical College is located in central Baroda, about 1 km from Vadodara Railway and Bus Stand and 3 km from Vadodara Airport.

The Main bus station is 2 kilometers from the college and takes about 6 minutes to travel via Aurobindo Ghosh Road. Vadodara Railway Station is situated at a distance of 6 km from the college which is about 6 minutes travel and in addition, Vadodara Domestic Airport is the nearest airport from the college at a distance of 6km about 15 minutes journey via Pani Tanki Road.
