Dr. Ida Scudder is the founder of Christian Medical College as sensitivity for the spiritual and physical dimensions of human suffering at same she was not on built a mere medical college but the Kingdom of God. So it was started as a one-bedded clinic-cum-dispensary in 1900 and today this institute, one of national and international fame, includes a network of primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care hospitals, with around 3000 beds spread across six campuses in and around Vellore. In 1918, Dr Ida Scudder started the LMP programme in response to the desperate need for medical doctors in India, and later it was upgraded to the MBBS course in 1942. It has one of the top-ranked medical colleges in the country on producing compassionate, professionally excellent and ethically sound healthcare professionals.

The Christian Medical College offers an extensive range of UG, PG and Higher Speciality courses in Medicine, Nursing, Allied health sciences, and related disciplines. The annual intake of Undergraduates of MBBS is 100 and 355 for Post Graduates students.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or biotechnology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category) to study Medical Course.
Admission to Christian Medical College is done for NRI Quota(15 % of MBBS seats) or Management has 75% quota conducted by state medical authorities. Contact the college authority for Management quota seats to know more detailed admission procedures.

The Medical College Campus built in 1932 is spread over a 200-acre wooded site at the foot of College Hill. It remains, as originally envisaged, a residential community where students and staff can study and reside in serene and beautiful surroundings. The central college chapel opens on to a sunken garden and connects with the Women’s Hostel and various classrooms through peaceful stone corridors. Interspersed among the tall trees and winding roads are other hostels, administrative, teaching and research facilities, staff residences, guest houses, playing fields and more.
Faculty and Staff
CMC vellore has resulted in an enviable list of over 900 Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Science faculty in every department. The faculty has been developing with every support to specialize and continually upgrade skills and practice.
In 1960 Christian Medical College was established The Department of Library Services thus support and serve the medical community. The library functions in two different locations as The Dodd Memorial Library at the Hospital campus and the Gault Library in the College campus at Bagayam. The library has a collection of ebooks, full-text electronic journals databases, Abstracts of the Thesis, the Institutional Repositories and other web-based portals and links.
The Bagayam campus has the Women’s and Men’s Hostels for MBBS students, the Fitch Hostel for Allied Health women students, the Dorothy Joske Hostel for Allied Health men students and the Modale International Hostel for elective / visitor-observer students from overseas. Fully residential, both faculty and students live on the same campus.
The CMC has various amenities like institutional canteens, ATMs, post offices, provision shops, gift stores and so on, in its premises.
Christian Medical College Vellore has a large playground for athletics, football, hockey, and cricket is located at one end of the campus. There are two state-of-the-art outdoor basketball courts and basketball continues to be one of the most popular games on the campus. Volleyball courts, indoor shuttle courts, and two tennis courts are also available. Annual sports and games are conducted by the college for students and staff in addition to an annual intercollegiate games festival and several friendly staff-student matches.
The Main hospital is situated in the Town Campus with the vast majority of the clinical departments are functioning. It has a large 2858 (Including Peripherals) bed hospital with 144 specialized departments/units and is in a position to provide specialized medical care to patients for requiring treatments.
Moreover, Christian Medical College has a system by which it gives exposure to all consultants by periodically sending them for various national/international conferences, symposiums, and specialized training overseas to acquire the latest knowledge and skills in their respective areas so that they can provide high-quality medical service to all patients coming to the institution.
