King George’s Medical University (KGMU) was started to build in 1905 at Lucknow, to caters medical services with eminence contributions for in academics, research, and patient care for around the state population of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and also the neighbouring country of Nepal. In 1911, The College has started a first medical session with an irreducible minimum of staff members and the first batch of students qualified in 1916. In 1921, A change took place in the control when these institutions transferred from Allahabad University to the new Lucknow University and ceased to be directly under the Government of the United Provinces.
The KGMU Lucknow campus building features were designed in the Indo-Saracenic style by architect Sir Swinton Jacob and are consists of a conglomeration of buildings housing with various departments, which came up over a period of 100 years. Besides, KGMU is the largest Residential Medical University in India with the Faculty of Medicine, Dental Sciences, Nursing and Paramedical Sciences.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility
Eligibility: 17 years of age or above as on 31-Dec of the admission year. The maximum age limit to Study MBBS course is 25 years. All Higher Secondary School Students with 10+2 in science stream including biology or bio-technology along with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible(In case of SC/ST, 40% in board exams; 45% for OBC Category)

This Prestigious Government University has offer medical education for approximately 5300 undergraduate/Postgraduate students, MD/MS/Diploma Courses in 24 Specialties & DM/M.Ch. courses in 28 super specialities.
Each Medical Departments has functioning separate buildings like General Surgery, Medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Pharmacology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology etc..The Convocation Hall, Seminar Hall (White Hall), Undergraduate and Postgraduate Cells, Examination Hall, computer centre, VC’s Office and KGMCICE are housed in Administrative Block.
KGMU has Central Library and Ranvaxy Centre lies on the right side of the Administrative Block. Also, the College has a huge playground in Sardar Patel Hostel and Ambitious Scientific Convention Centre with state of art hall and houses as a 1000 capacity.
KGMU Central Library was established in 1911 inside the Administrative Block with an area covered is 4012.11 Sq. Mtrs. The Library has been automated with ‘KOHA’ Library Management Software which has a rich collection of 39353 books, 2681 Book Bank, 28180 bound volumes, 3207 Thesis and 1088 CDs. In addition, it has Subscribed 180 print-Journals, 993 E-journals, 4108 E-books, 52157 videos and 3836137 images.
In 1996 The Library has been nominated as resource Library by National Medical Library and got linkage with the National Medical Library under the PILOT PROJECT of the Government of India in 2002. Presently, it’s a Member of Electronic Resources in Medicine (ERMED-India) Consortium, Which it can be accessed 242 high-quality online e-journals from five leading Publishers.
King George’s Medical University provided separate Residential accommodation as hostel facilities for UG Students of accommodate capacity for boys 983 and for Girls 325 students. There is a separate building for Interns students hostel for accommodate boys of 174 and for Girls 144. In Addition, Residents and Nurses have separate hostel buildings which accommodate 750 & 123 respectively. All rooms are Hygiene, clean furnished with have adequate facilities. Along with the complex consists of Mess hall, Visitor room, Computer & TV room and recreation room.
KG Medical College has Association which is Founded in 1912 and organized Sports Day every year 2nd week of December. It includes Inter semester sports competitions called ‘Thrill” for students and among teachers. The high point of the event is a cricket match among the teachers between College Vs Hospital. Besides the Athletics sports, there are outdoor and indoor games playfields which include Cricket, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis and Tennis Lawn, also Swimming pool with lifeguard and Gymnasium. Along with the Sports Day, the KGMU engage in many extracurricular activities that the Dramatic Society organizes a ‘Medifest’ or a weeklong festival called “Zephyr” in which other colleges are invited to participate many curricular activities.

The Gandhi Memorial & Associated Hospitals has over 4500 functional beds with an average 10,000 OPD attendance every day. The Tertiary Care Centre of hospital indoor admissions is reached more than 15lacs in a year’s time. Besides, the hospital competencies and capabilities are utilized with the fullest in order to serve the droves of patients, incessantly, with greater expectations.
The Hospital Outpatients’ Clinics of Medicine, Neurology, Pediatrics and Ophthalmology are functioning in the 3 storied OPD building which was built in the 1970s. The surgical specialities, skin and ENT outpatients are functioning in the old building in front of the OPD Ticket Counter.
